⏱️ Study time: 5–7 minutes

〜と言います (to iimasu) is the standard pattern for introducing names and saying what something is called. The particle と acts like quotation marks — it wraps whatever comes before it. Use this pattern to say "My name is ~", "This is called ~", or to report what someone says.

🚀 JLPT N5 Warm-up Quiz

Q: How do you say “My name is Tanaka” politely?

Both A and B are correct! A (田中たなかです) is the simplest introduction. B (田中たなかいます) is the full "is called" pattern — more formal and explicit. C is casual (と言う).
